Young Winchesters: Chapter one.
My Brothers Keeper
Dean Winchester had always been very aware of his surroundings. The life he lived, forced him to be. However today was the day he made a fatal mistake and he knew it was his fault. However now it was too late to change it, Sam’s life was in danger and he would do anything to save his brother.
Just a few hours earlier their father had dropped the
Winchester boys at a cheap motel. With just enough money to last them a few
days and a few weapons. Sam of course didn’t know about the weapons, Instead
Sam was under the impression that no one in their family had ever fired a gun.
Dean of course knew better. By his thirteenth birthday, earlier that week, Dean
had fired enough silver shotgun rounds to kill a Vampire. That however is not a
metaphor, because for his thirteenth birthday he actually did kill a Vampire.
As they settled into the hotel room and Sam snacked on a
packet of crisps, Dean sat on his bed in silence. Killing the Vampire was fun
at first, until all the thoughts of existential dread hit him. He just ended a
life and he wondered whether that monster, which he filled with silver on his
father’s orders, ever felt lonely. Like the loneliness he felt right now. The thoughts
were soon drowned out by the images his father had shown him of the Massacre this
vampire had committed.
“What do we do now” Sam said, frustrated at being stuck in a
motel room.
Dean quickly started thinking of a way to entertain his brother.
Of course he went to the obvious z turning the television on. Luckily an episode
of Scooby Doo was playing. Something they could both enjoy.
In the cold outside the motel something dark watched the boys
enjoy their show. Something that was specifically attracted to them and fed off
them. The being was transfixed on them, as it licked the glass and made its plans.
It knew which one it wanted and it was ready to get them.
A few hours later Dean had awoken, he quickly realized that they
had fell asleep in front of the television. However another realization also hit
quite quickly after that. He’s brother had fell asleep without eating dinner. He
quickly grabbed the cash that his father had given to him and left the motel room.
The order to never leave Sammy alone, was a far away thought and never occurred
to him at this point.
Dean made quick work of grabbing snacks out of the vending machine.
At this hour he wouldn’t be able to find any proper food and the cold was biting
at him, so he wanted to get back quickly.
However he noticed something strange when returning to the motel
room. The smell of Sulfur emanated from the room, something that he had smelt many
times before. Something that chilled him to his core.
He entered cautiously, unaware of what horrors lay within. Inside
of the room was a thick red mist, which seemed to be directly surrounding his baby
brother.
He reacted instantly, grabbing his gun from under the bed. However
the mist was aware of this and started to spin around the room. Changing the temperature
from comfortable to sweltering hot.
Not knowing what else to do, Dean fired a few shots into the
mist. Aiming wildly without calculating the risk.
This seem to anger the being as it once again collected itself
and focused on Sam. A second later it settled on him until he was completely obscured
by it. As Dean rushed into the red mist to grab him he felt nothing. His brother
had completely disappeared. A second later, so had the mist.
